Matt Austin grew up in a small United Methodist church in Verdigris, Oklahoma. It was in this church that he saw a community that lived out their commitment to Christ by pouring into their young people. This church felt like a family. He received his call into ministry at this church before going to Oklahoma City University to study religion. At OCU, he met his wife, Kaitlin, and worked at the campus tech department until he accepted a part-time job as a volunteer coordinator and youth director at Connect United Methodist Church in 2012. At this time, Connect Church was a brand new church plant located in an elementary school in North East Edmond.
Throughout his undergraduate degree and his time in seminary, Matt helped Connect grow, build a permanent building, and establish itself as a community church. In 2018, Matt was appointed to Connect as its associate pastor and high-impact church planting resident. Around the same time, Matt and Kaitlin adopted their daughter, Jayden and their biological son was born a month later. In January of this year, they welcomed their second son, Harrison into the world. Matt’s experience at Connect provided him hands-on experience and knowledge about how to plant a church and start new ministries. He has seen the challenges of building a church from the ground up and experienced the rewards of doing something new for Christ’s Kingdom. He has learned how adaptive a pastor must be when trying to plant a church and knows what it takes to make a new church work.
Outside of church, Matt enjoys hanging out with his friends, cooking, and enjoying time with his family. He loves learning new things which has led him to be somewhat a collector of hobbies. He enjoys hobbies that include everything from fishing and hiking to playing video games and blacksmithing. If you have a fun hobby, let him know! He just might join you!
